There was something very Eurovision-esque about yesterday's series of concerts. Concerts were held in Sydney, Tokyo, Shanghai, Johannesburg, Rio De Janeiro, London and New York and, during breaks, a series of pre-shot commercials featuring influential celebrities such as Ben Affleck, Penelope Cruz and Cameron Diaz highlighted just some of the basic, small measures we can all put into place to minimise the impact on future generations.
Amid images of floods, hurricanes, nuclear power silos, the destruction of rainforests, the killing of endangered tigers and poverty in Africa, politicians past and present, Madonna penned a number especially for yesterday's show at Wembley. It's just sad that we have to rely on pop stars to open the eyes of the people who sit in government cabinets around the world. They, ultimately, have the power to bring about change in society.
However, there is alot we can do as individuals. Recycle your waste paper, put on a jumper and turn that thermostat down, download your favourites tracks instead of buying CDs, turn of lights in vacant rooms. And, even better, start now!
